Berlin Television Tower (Fernsehturm)
The Berlin Television Tower (Fernsehturm), erected in 1969, was for years the pride of the GDR, a tower built to show the superiority of communism over capitalism.
The tower, 368 meters high, is the tallest structure in Germany. It is located in the center of Alexanderplatz, the most important square of the German Democratic Republic (Soviet zone).
A curiosity of the tower is that the glass that covers the main part of the structure makes, when reflected the morning sun, a cross is seen in the center of the sphere. This phenomenon caused that the western ones called to the symbol of the Soviet power "The Revenge of the Pope", throwing to the ground the communist propaganda.
The best views of Berlin
Although there are several viewpoints distributed throughout the city, the views from the Television Tower are the most complete that can be obtained.
From the observation platform, located at 203 meters in height, you can observe the architectural differences of the city and the main communist avenues.
The revolving restaurant of the tower, located a few meters above the viewpoint, offers the best views of the city accompanied by some typical Berlin dishes. The price is not much higher than other Berlin restaurants.
